Learning positive self-talk can be really hard. I know from experience. Do you want to know something else I’ve learned from experience?
Positive self-talk makes all the difference in your success. We can only go as far as we believe we can go.
If we believed we could go even farther, the possibilities of what we could accomplish are endless.
So here’s a step-by-step process I use to help me talk more positively to myself.
Step 1: Positive Self-Talk Exercise
Use the template towards the end of this email to:
Write down some of the negative things you might think about yourself
Write a positive response that combats the negative
It will feel kind of silly at first, but the more you do it, the more relief you will feel. You’ll also build up a nice archive of positive thoughts for this next step!
Step 2: Talk back to the negative
The negative voice in our head is really loud sometimes, and let’s face it, very persuasive.
So use the positive arguments you came up with from step one and talk back to it. That negative voice will learn it’s place and will eventually become less loud.
Step 3: Write a kind letter to yourself
We all treasure each and every friend we have. And we want them to feel special and important to us.
But have you ever thought of yourself as your friend? You are constantly around yourself. Are you being the kind of friend that you would be to one of those cherished friends?
Let’s try something.
Write a letter to yourself, and imagine your speaking to one of those treasured friends. Keep these questions in mind:
What do you like about them?
What makes them special?
Why do you like their company?
It can be hard to think of things you like about yourself and to remember what makes you special.
This step will take practice, but it will help you learn your value and you will see how amazing you truly are!
